Dean Cuplin
dean@navicapartners.com

Dean is a former CEO with thirty years experience as a corporate leader and entrepreneur in the technology, financial services & biotechnology industries. He is an accomplished corporate team builder with leadership, organizational, analytical, financial, marketing and persuasive communication skills. He is a visionary and creative problem solver who faces business challenges with insight and directness, and has provided strategic and tactical guidance to both established and entrepreneurial corporations.

As a business leader, change agent and intrapreneur, he has been a successful corporate executive with GE Capital, Storage Technology Corporation and Equitable Life Leasing. As an entrepreneur he has founded three companies, most recently MitoKor, a biotechnology company that is the world leader in its field.

His style of coaching is based on mutual rapport, trust and credibility. It reflects the Navica philosophical approach to coaching, relying on open communication and a commitment to the performance and success of the executive client. Both coach and client convey to the other what they need to hear, not what they want to hear; an approach born from the sage advice of his own former and current mentors.

Dean has the credibility that comes from the experience of being a "been-there-done-that" senior executive. His clients appreciate that he is their peer and shares their experiences and challenges. Executive clients working with him see significant changes in their effectiveness.

Dean is also an active participant in business community activities and philanthropic endeavors. He has served on the Board of the Alzheimer's Association, as an advisor to the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego and as a panelist at the annual Entrepreneurs Conference sponsored by the Harvard Business School Association of Orange County. He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Iowa and an M.A. degree from the University of North Dakota.

Successful journeys require careful navigation and good decision-making often under difficult circumstances. Whether sailing off the coast of California in perfect weather or Honduras in a tropical storm, Dean knows the value of preparation, self-reliance and skillful execution.
